Carly Lua is a doctoral fellow in Counseling Psychology at University at Buffalo. She is a pleasure activist and former Women’s Health Advocate at Planned Parenthood in Buffalo, NY. Her research in sexuality and gender focuses on intimacy, and sexual fantasy. She is a certified yoga instructor and mindfulness therapist and often uses yoga principles to inform her counseling practice, emphasizing embodiment, interoceptive awareness, and self-care. Carly draws from a wide range of therapeutic techniques including humanistic, existential, psychodynamic, and mindfulness to tailor therapy to meet the client’s individual needs and goals. Fostering an open, safe, and trustful therapeutic alliance is top priority in her work. Carly has a passion for facilitating self-compassion, sexual joy, and curiosity in one’s sexual experience, with the goal of encouraging celebration of one’s unique sexual world.
